Q&A with the London Alternative Photography Collective

It was the icing on the cake really – a wonderful private view for my exhibition at the Silverprint Gallery that included a chat with Melanie King the founder and organiser of the London Alternative Photography Collective.

The LAPC runs regular events at the Doomed Gallery with talks, mini exhibitions and Q&As with photographers using alternative processes. To my surprise – as I don’t really consider my work to be ‘alternative’…traditional, yes, but not alternative – Melanie asked me to come and give a talk.

Seeing as I was working with Fraser Miles, the gallery curator at Silverprint, and we were already doing a Q&A with Be Smart About Art, I asked him if he’d be interested. Luckily for me he was, seeing as a-stood-behind-a-rostrum-on-my-own-talk was slightly too far outside of my comfort zone…

The event was packed and incredibly well received. That probably had something to do with Mike Crawford, a wonderful photographer and LAPC regular, who was on before me. But I will take any ego boost I can get…

It flew by and once again I realised that despite considering myself shy and uneasy about talking in public, when it comes to waxing lyrical about my work, I thoroughly enjoy it.

Thanks so much to Melanie and Kenneth Flaherty, owner of Doomed Gallery and of course to everyone who came to the LAPC event.
