Jim Shannon: Competition Winner

STA Travel Exotic Cultures Photographic Competition 2010:

There is always something heart warming about receiving good news. The other day Jim told me he had won the STA travel photographic competition with this beautiful image taken in Iran. And sure enough, right on cue my heart was filled with warmth, pride and joy. Jim is an incredibly hard working and talented photographer (and illustrator and web designer) who fully deserves this. The prize is a trip for two to India.

Jim found out about the competition by chance when he saw a leaflet whilst in a travel agents sorting out his travel insurance. Entering it was a spur of the moment decision and, like many of the good things in life, the result was a complete surprise to him.

There were over 2000 images entered and amazingly Jim had 3 in the top ten. The final ceremony was held in The Mosaic Rooms in Earl’s Court and was judged by Robert Harding (Founder and CEO of Robert Harding World Imagery), Zoe Whishaw (former head of photography for Getty Images in Europe) and Alex Hibbert (wildlife photographer and polar explorer). The event was sponsored by British Airways,Olympus Cameras and The Mosaic Rooms.

Please take a look at Jim’s site and photographs – It is well worth it, and hopefully sometime in the near future there will be some new stunning photographs taken in India.
