About
Toby has been working as a freelance Television Camera Operator since 2001, specializing in studio and OB multi camera work.
He works regularly on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen, worked on most of Channel 4’s Richard and Judy, and all series of Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother between 2000 & 2014. Other credits include Something for the Weekend, Trisha, The Wright Stuff, The Kumars at No 42, Market Kitchen, T4, The Munch Box and Sunday Brunch.
As a freelancer he is as happy turning up in a studio for the first time as he is being a part of a long running show. In both cases, reliable and ready to contribute to the visual structure of a programme.
Toby is equally experienced operating a hand held camera on fast moving music shows, tracking a ped across the studio floor or following a golf ball through the air on the end of an 86:1 lens. He is comfortable in all situations from tightly scripted to chaotically improvised shows and from reality TV to high profile, multi-million viewer live television programmes.
As well as his regular studio programmes, Toby also works on the international Golf circuit. He has operated on many of the European Opens as well the Solheim Cup and every Ryder Cups held at Celtic Manor in Wales in 2010.
One of the aspects of work that Toby finds most fulfilling is passing on his experience and enthusiasm to assistants and junior operators. Whether it is the skills involved in scripted music, working with LDs, making the most of studio peds or just basic framing, Toby will enthusiastically and willingly share his experience and passion in an infectious, yet concise and clear way.
